Doctor Who

I’ve been meaning to rant about how crap the season finale of Doctor Who was.

Russell T Davies is a shockingly bad writer, I’m hoping he sticks to being the boss next season and lets the talent do the scripts. That is after we are inflicted with his christmas special starring Kylie Minogue trying to act.

I’m not really good at coherent rants however so I direct this post towards this blog. I’m so happy to see that there are people don’t rate the finale as the “best who eva!”

My hopes for next season are that RTD stops writing, let him inflict his scripts on Torchwood. I love Torchwood, but it seems a far more suitable medium for his sensationalist over the top stories. The other hopes are that they deal with Martha’s character intelligently, and that they get Steven Moffat (who wrote the episode Blink) to write a few.

Blink was by far the best episode of the series and that says a lot for the writer when the Doctor and Martha were barely in it, yet great when they were. Steven Moffat, I am your fan!

Okay big spoiler rant follows:

Martha’s blog

I found the official BBC Martha Jones blog here.

I don’t know if it’s official story line canon or not (like the books are also a grey area), but it’s fun to see what Martha would write about in between shows.

More on Torchwood

About Torchwood… I was remembering some of the best bits of the season.

I think one of the stand-out scenes for the whole show was when Captain Jack Harkness kissed the real Captain Jack Harkness from the past. They really look liked they’d fallen in love. Not to mention it being a damn great story.

Actually they more acurately, pashed, or maybe snogged. No.. I think pashed fits best. In the most traditional “I love you and I’ll never see you again” movie style. Which is usually done really badly in crap blockbusters, but in this it was really emotional and inspiring. You don’t see that between two men very often. Yay for Torchwood!

Torchwood

I finished the first season of Torchwood, the Doctor Who spin-off.

It’s great. I love Captain Jack.

Doctor Who

The newest iteration of Doctor Who is great.

When the BBC started the new series in 2005, I thought the new Doctor was okay, and the new Who girl (Rose) was terrible. I watched a few then stopped, she annoyed me too much.

They changed the Doctor in season 2. The new Doctor played by David Tennant is the best Doctor the series has ever had. Even better then Tom Baker. I can’t really attest to him in season 2 though, I had to wait till Rose left to watch it. Apparently they fell in love by the end.

In season 3, the new Who girl, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), is an enormous improvement on Rose, mainly because, well, she can act. Her and David Tennant have chemistry, they seem to bounce of each other well.

David Tennant is the ultimate geek hero. Doctor Who’s always been a bit this way, what with travelling round the universe saving the day at the last minute with nothing but a sonic screwdriver and all. There’s a great moment in S03E06 where:

Martha’s sister: “He’s a science geek, I should have known”.
(she leaves)
The Doctor: “Science geek, what’s that mean?”
Martha Jones: “You’re obsessively enthusiastic about it.”
The Doctor: “Ah, right” (with an extremely pleased and satisfied grin on his face, it’s all in the self satisfaction :) ).

Anyways, it’s great! Woo! The writing is fantastic this time too. They seem to be handling Martha’s character really well. The Doctor lights up the stage ever time he enters screen. He does really well with all sorts of added odd yet endearing mannerisms and quirks.

I told my sister if I was gay I’d be in love with him, she told me if she was gay she’d be turned by him. :P.

Anyway, I highly recommended it, especially if you were initially enthusiastic about the new series, but disappointed by Rose, both her acting and how they handled her character.

I don’t get BBC here, but EZTV and Mininova are substitutes.
