		<description>I'd like to point out that things may be slightly different now that pulse audio is ubuntu's main audio server. I haven't got my usb audio card with me anymore so can't check the best way to set it up.</description>

		<description>this advice also worked for 8.04 running a new AMD 64bitx2 home theater box I just made, except I had to set the Amarok-settings-engine output plugin to OSS (ALSA didnt work). 

I pray for the day this gets simple...</description>

You are the King of USB soundcards
I have had the problem wit not getting the UA-1EX to paly flash audio in FF.
But this solved the problem and also the problem to use ALSA as the input / Output device.
