I installed Ubuntu linux last night, while I was looking for something to keep me up till 4am again.
Downloaded, installed it, played around with it for a bit, surfed the web. 4 hours total. The installation part probably only took about half an hour.
Much easier then mandrake, which takes so many damn cd’s.
A single ~500Mb iso.
I like how unlike mandrake, you can get the latest updates without paying.
It’s free software and free price.
It is VERY polished. I’ve never seen desktop linux work so well. I think the latest gnome version had something to do with that too.
Also very fast. Things open almost instantly, as they should (another gripe I had with mandrake 10.1).
I still need windows though, games just aren’t made for linux. This is ATI’s fault, Neverwinter nights has a perfectly fine linux version that I can’t use because ATI’s linux drivers suck.
Next time I upgrade my video card I’m getting a nVidia. Guildwars doesn’t have a linux version though. So it’ll have to wait till I get sick of playing that (could be a while).
It’s still great to have though. Any time I feel like playing with it I can boot it up, great for times when I should be doing work instead of gaming.
